Cape Town is world-renowned for its natural beauty, and is a very popular tourist destination due to the accessibility of this beauty. You don’t need to travel much further than a couple of hours in any direction from Cape Town to experience something special. From the East coast to the West Coast and everything in between there is something unique to see and many more little places to stop and shop at.

Here are a few of our favourite places to visit close to Cape Town:

1. Matjiesfontein, N1 Highway

Driving time from Cape Town is about 2,5 hours

Along the N1 there are hundreds of towns to stop at and shop, but this is one that you shouldn’t miss! Even though Matjiesfontein is more of a small hamlet than a town it boasts one of the friendliest and magical communities. With only a hotel, railway station and collection of museums in the town, you wouldn’t think too much of it, but its history more than makeup for it

The most popular activities to do include, the Transport Museum, London styled double-decker bus tour through the town and commemorating the 10 000 soldiers that called the place home during the Anglo-Boer War.

2. Paternoster, West Coast

Driving time from Cape Town, about 1,5 hours.

Paternoster is the best example of West Coast living, being one of the oldest fishing towns and only about 150km north of Cape Town, it has become renowned for its white-washed fisherman’s cottages and freshly caught crayfish

Some popular activities include walks along the beautiful white beach, hunting for treasures at Die Winkel op Paternoster and a trip to the Cape Columbine lighthouse, which was built in 1936 and is still operated today. Also, visit the West Coast National Park and the West Coast Fossil Park.
